ARTIST STATEMENT:

I have been making my work combining my experiences in typography, painting, photography, printing, and books.  I make books and prints that are visually graphic combining text and image on issues about my life. Most recently the seem to be around technology and the environment I live in which is a border area between Mexico and the US.

It is clear that the work stems from my early career in offset lithography and phototypesetting. I studied graphic design and painting. An important influence for me was living New York City where I learned much from the museums and the city in the 1980’s. Joey Ramon was my neighbor, I worked in a feminist Art Gallery, and waitressed in the West Village among other things. I was an early user of the mac and photoshop.
My work has always been process based and I like the immediacy of working with the limitation of my environment. The subjects of my work have around technology and the environment.

Currently I am working with letterpress printing producing broadsides and artists books. I find making is a way for me to learn and explore.  I prefer to work intuitively. My process is of collecting and then working through the materials to create a more specific work. Starting broad and then focusing in. Juxtaposition of ideas and forms moves along my ideas.
